Reading Buddies & Review Tuesday

Hello Everybody,

Mathematics:
Today, all the pages for the Transformational Geometry Unit that I have corrected were returned to the students and we worked on the Math Review to ensure the students are well prepared for their Quiz tentatively planned for Friday April 13th, 2018

Next, we are beginning our Math Summative, which will involve a Tessellation or Tiling Pattern. On Thursday, we will go over the Tiling Pattern sheets and introduce the Summative Assignment. If you child wants to get some more information on tessellations to help them out, this YouTube Video would be very useful:

Today, we had Reading Buddies (pictures below). The students did an excellent job working with their buddies. Also, our Literature Circle Paperwork for Week 1 was handed in today.

UOI:
Yesterday, we discussed different social issues in Canada and brainstormed a list of them on the board. The students need to select a social issue that they are passionate about to prepare them for their next assignment called "Take a Stand!".  This assignment will be discussed in more depth tomorrow morning and the students will receive their requirements and rubric.

Today, I handed back the papers on "Who you gonna call?" and we took up the answers in class. This page plus the Canadian Government Package (Maps of Canada) are the study pages for their Quiz tentatively planned for Thursday April 12th, 2018. The second half of UOI was dedicated to writing the OWA pre-assessment.

This morning a group of Grade 6 students presented their Action Plan on their Deforestation Exhibition. Your student has come home with a card requesting permission to receive some seeds (free of charge) in order to plant a tree. This card needs to be signed by a parent and returned by Friday April 13th, 2018

As you may be aware, there was a tragic accident that occurred in Saskatchewan on Friday evening. The Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team was involved in an accident while travelling by bus to one of their playoff games, claiming the lives of 15 people and injuring many others. Around the country and world, organizations have shown their support to these victims, their families, and the Humboldt community. Here at St. Jude’s Academy, we strive to have students apply the learner profile attributes and attitudes not only through their studies at school, but in their community. St. Jude’s would like to show our support for the victims and their families by sending our students to school on Thursday, April 12th, wearing their favourite sports jersey to honour the Humboldt Broncos. The school will be holding a short assembly and a moment of silence on Thursday morning for Grades 3-12 to honour these players, coaches, and families.

As a reminder: St.Jude's Academy is now affiliated with an official soccer club called St. Jude's FC. Students of St.Jude are given a 33% discount that will allow them to join the club and play competitively with other soccer clubs this spring and summer (starting most likely April to September). The students will be working with excellent coaches and going to competitions on the weekend. Practices will be held (most likely) right after school twice a week. In April, besides the soccer field, the students will have a chance to play in our official soccer dome! I think this is a great opportunity!! The students have been given forms (I can e-mail extras), they should try to submit the form as soon as possible.
